This weekend I spent a little time stitching up a goodie to send off for a project that looked like fun. I first learned of the project from another cool chicky who blogs at Giggly Mama & Family. See...
Stitch Project was started by Nicole. She's recently engaged, loves embroidery and is making a patchwork quilt from pieces sent to her by other folks who love stitching as much as she... Here's her progress so far.
Pretty cool, no? If you visit Feeling Stitchy, Mr. X Stitch or the Flickr Embroidery & Phat Quarter pools, some of these names might pop right out at you. I have a... well, let's call it "mischievous" sense of humor, and a (not so) secret love all these snarky. But I also love all things sweet & beautiful. You get lots of snarky and sweet at all of these sites. Myyy favorite!
Anyhoo... Here's what I whipped up to send to Nicole.
I like it... a lot! I almost didn't want to give it away. Does that happen with all of you, too? ...big sigh...Like the over-eager bonehead that I can be, I didn't re-read the rules before I started until after I had stitched on the flower. Hello... 4x6...!! Sheesh, my flower is like 3x5. So I stitched in my name and town pretty close to the flower (which I had planned to anyway). This piece will technically fit in a 4x6 square... but just barely. Ah well... Nicole seems like a sweety with a great sense of humor from the emails we exchanged. I don't think she'll be too hung up about the size. I didn't cut off the extra fabric, I figured that way she could use the scraps some where else on the quilt, if she wanted to.
I wouldn't normally have put these colors together, I'm so predictable! But I had this fabric, which I love (it's so cheery and reminds me of a dress my mom made when I was little) left over from making my garden shed curtains last summer. Also, I happened to have these felts too, so I didn't even have to go to the store for this project, it was all already in my stash, woohoo! I cranked these flowers out of my Sizzix!
Usually, I do the under/over stitch on appliqués, but I recently received a beautiful hand made gift from a friend that used the blanket stitch, so much cuter!! Lends just a little more color and texture. Thank you, you-know-who! You're always an inspiration!!
Here's one last picture. It was so sunny yesterday, I just kept snapping away! Today is a different story, it's dismal and very rainly and wet & super cold. I'm buoyed by the fact that spring is just around the corner.
Sew, I hope Nicole likes her square! I really enjoyed making it.
Best wishes Nicole, here's to a long and happy marriage!
Cheers,
Lisa
